Slippery - Slimey Crab Apples

Just a note of warning: Beware sidewalks full of slippery, slimey, wet, crab apples. With all the rain we have been having, it has turned some of the sidewalks into treacherous stretches of rotten fruit. I almost biffed it on a run last night...it reminded me of running in the bog at the filthy 5K. *sigh* But at least during the filthy your prepared to fall.

Here's another one I need to get off my chest. Have you ever been running along in a resedential area, and suddenly you get a big nose ful… Continue

This Time I'm Really Gonna Do It

It is 4 days to the firts annual Fargo Half-Marathon, and I am NOT, I repeat NOT injured (knocking on wood)!! This means if I show up and finish this Saturday I will have accomplished my goal of running a half marathon in 2009!! I am really not concerned about my time, I am more concerned about not walking. I just want to run the entire thing and say to myself, you did it, you just ran 13.1 miles!! I am thinking I should cross the finish around 2 hrs 30 min, unless I get lost. I hope to see lots… Continue

A Chiropractor is a Runner's Best Friend

Hello, I hope everyone is having a great summer and enjoying those early morning runs...yuck. I have been plagued by muscle pulls (hamstring) and ITB issues since right before the marathon this spring. But I am happy to report that I am back in gear and running again. Turns out that I have a pelvis that likes to move around, and shift positions, and that in turn causes me to pull muscles, because my stride is off. And what I thought was ITB problem was bursitis caused by running with my pelvis o… Continue

To Run or Not to Run?

Since my untimely injury on April 5th, I have pondered whether or not I should try and complete the half-marathon that I have registered and paid for (non-refundable). I have really been hoping for a miracle and that I will heal in record time and be able to finish as planned. Just not happening that way. And...it's my first half-marathon, and I want it to be special. I don't want to gimp my way through the race, and get the medal, when I know I am capable of running the full distance. Like Tim,… Continue

ITB - WTF?

Hello ~ my week has completely sucked. I haven't been on a run since April 5th so that is more than two weeks now. I wimped out on all the group runs this winter, and I talked myself out of joining the "Beyond Marathoning" class. I thought I was still too new, I thought I could do it on my own. I bought a book and a heart rate monitor. I was gonna do it alone. And so I ran, I ran, and I ran my training guide. I ran inside, on a treadmill, on a level soft surface, with climate control air tempera… Continue

best of luck...hope it heals up soon! Unfortunately, injuries can be a part of running, but don't get discouraged. They happen to everyone. If you end up deciding to go to a PT, let me know...I could recommend a couple PTs that are certified in ASTYM (don't ask me what that stands for). I have had quicker success with this treatment than traditional PT treatments.

Sorry to hear about your hamstring. Fortunately for me, I have never really had much of a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, I've had plenty of others. Wonder if something like a foam PT roller or some physical therapy might help? Have you tried either of these things? I am currently dealing with a minor calf strain and these are the two treatment methods that seem to be helping the most. Hope this help! Good luck!

Yes, most of my conversations are small talk. It's only when I have major events in my life that I get into reflection, the cosmic reality, and the eschatological dimensions of the universe. All of this is adiaphora, as well. I look forward to meeting you!
